Why Parent

A woman reached out and scheduled a consult. She wasn't pregnant. The tone of the email was pointing toward getting her ducks in a row, finding a doula now so when she IS pregnant, she'll be good to go. Ducks in a row. I've met with families like this before. And it's been great. A half a year later, I get an email saying they are expecting, and want to work together. This meeting was not that. I was basically to explore the Million Dollar Question...to parent or not to parent.
I lit up. You mean I don't have to sell myself and explain why I'd be a great fit as your someday, maybe, possibly doula? Lovely. You just want to zoom for an hour and talk about parenting? Oh I can definitely do that. I listened to her big scary fears about it all. Some very legit. Losing yourself, the cost, bringing a child into the world with the political climate.....
Then it was my turn. Why parent? I knew I was not going to be able to speak to this question without getting choked up. Because you won't regret it. Sure, kids may bring us to our knees, challenge us more than anyone has before, exhaust us.... AND!....there is a very good chance they will most likely be one of your most favorite people you've ever met. So if you're considering jumping into the biggest river of LOVE....yeah, go get wet.
